Case Study :: P213
TISSUE DYE CADDY
Re-imagine the storage caddy fora line of staining dyes and
auxiliary tools
View PDF
Synopsis ::
Descher was selected to re-imagine the design of a carrier caddy for tissue staining dyes (and associated preparation tools) for use in a histological laboratory. The existing caddy was dated and expensive to manufacture, so updating the design aesthetic as well as reducing cost were project drivers. Timing was also critical, as the customer wished to avoid an impending low-inventory trigger requiring the purchase of additional units utilizing the existing design.
Large format rapid prototype model used for concept validation
Solution ::
Descher engineers a series of concepts in 3D CAD for the customer's marketing team, and then collaboratively settled on a more hygienic design which could be either thermoformed or injection molded. The new caddy would feature:- (7) Dye cups
- (2) Dye cap holders
- Post-molding machined slots for stirrers and flexi-rulers
